We finally have the first trailer for “Dracula: Untold“, starring Luke Evans (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, The Raven, Fast and Furious 6) as Vlad The Impaler and Dominic Cooper (The Devil’s Double, Need for Speed, Captain America: The First Avenger) as the Sultan Mehmed.
Gary Shore takes a bold turn with this new tale about Dracula. The story of this project goes way back in early 2010 when Brad Pitt was attached to the production and Sam Worthington was set to star as Vlad. Much has changed ever since including the name of this movie, from Dracula: Year Zero to Dracula: Untold (some good choices if you ask us).
At first glance the trailer gives a whole new departure from the two standard issued Dracula approaches on screen: the romantic a la Coppola or the 2000 modern retake – not including the countless variations on Stoker’s book. It’s an origins tale of Dracula and we don’t get too many details of his past – he’s got a son, a wife and we have some historical accuracy for those of use who actually enjoy a good mix of truth and tales as old as time. Some have spotted some similarities – look and feel – with the Dark Knight trilogy. I say if we get a Dracula movie with the titled character as an anti-hero I’m satisfied, I still work on forgetting the whole Dracula 3000 and other movies like that one.
Luke Evans is doing a great job as Vlad – I’d pay at this point now to see a Romanian actor taken in consideration for playing Dracula (there was Marius Bodochi in the Romanian Vlad: Nemuritorul) but for now I’ll hope Evans will do justice to the part. It looks good, the character is given a motivation and so far we’ve got some catchy quotes. Even the tag on the official posters “Every bloodline has a beginning” is entertaining and gives a clue into a possible franchise. Let’s not forget the fact in this trailer we spot Charles Dance – the second time playing a vampire after “Underworld: Awakening” – and Dominic Cooper showing up in a few shoots as the Sultan Mehmed. The whole Baba Yaga character played by Samantha Banks is still surrounded in mystery. Who is she and what she’ll do in this movie are left to be seen.
For Romanians it’s always fun to see if there are some Romanian names used in any Dracula picture , add to that the use of Romanian language and historical accuracy, the latter rare for a Dracula movie but this one seems to broach the vampire nature close to the what we’ve learned at school facts. There are plenty according to IMDb.
Let’s not forget some good use of trailer music, this one having Lorde’s “Everybody wants to rule the world” set from the moment Vlad climbs a 300 like mountain – it really does remind us of the Leonidas scene.
#DraculaUntold reveals the origin of the famous vampire. How does it feel to play a young Dracula? I love a good origin story and so to start at the beginning of the life of such a famous literary figure is very exciting
How did you prepare for the role of Dracula? I read a lot of books on Vlad and also on Dracula. There's a Lot of contrasting opinions on both. it was one of the most interesting research projects I've ever undertaken when researching a character for a movie
What can fans expect from #DraculaUntold? Was there a part of the story that surprised you? Which was the most memorable scene to film? I can't answer that without ruining a major plot line in the film. Sorry! But It was a very emotionally exhausting day
You’ve played roles ranging from heroic to evil. Which is more challenging? Both have their challenges. Evil can be boring if there isn't some shadow of empathy. And the same goes for heros, good guys can have a Dark side too!!!
What is something surprising fans might not know about you? I hate spiders. Terrified of them.
Did you get any special training for this role? I trained for 7 weeks before we started shooting, I have several stunt and sword heavy fight scenes, these are super dangerous if you don't rehearse and get the Accuracy every time. I almost lost an eye. It can be super dangerous. But very exciting
What do you think about the idea of eternal life? I'm not sure I'm sold on the idea. You'd lose loved ones and it would be a very lonely existence. On the other on the other hand, you be very very clever and probably damn rich too!!
Did you ever feel intimidated by he fact that you were playing such an iconic character? Yes! Take a look also at all the incredible people who've played him. Big bloody shoes to fill!!! But I feel more honoured than intimidated
"There are two types of people: night owl and early bird. Who are you, Luke?" both, it's a problem of mine!!
"what was your reaction when you were told that you got the part?" I was on the beach in Miami, just before Xmas last year. I celebrated with a bottle of Bollinger!!!
What is your favourite memory of filming Dracula Untold? And which is the most scary? Probably the day I tried the fangs for first time. And probably the day I tried the fangs for the first time!!
Do you have an actor/actors that you look up to, and admire, in terms of their long career and brave choices? Many, Brando, Di Caprio, Wilder, McQueen, Pitt, Bale, Hopkins, De Niro to name a few of my inspirations
Do you have any pre-filming ritual to get in character? silence and solitude. Trailer door locked!
Was it one of the most difficult role you played until now? can't wait to see the movie Yes, we shot for 76 days and I worked every day and on the weekends often trained for the upcoming fights
What is your dream role in a film? I have a few dream roles I'd like to play but this one was definitely a special one for me
What do you have in common with Dracula? besides the look My fangs!! And my passion to protect my loved ones!
How was it working with Dominic Cooper again? Any funny episode with him? Working with Dom is a total treat, he's a superb actor and an old friend, but we do play very good enemies on screen
Did you take anything from set to keep as a souvenir? Yes my sword. It's the most beautiful sword I've ever got to fight with in a movie. And I've had quite a few
If there are any chances, do you want to perform on broadway? I love your singing voice!! I'd love to. One if my dreams is to tread the Broadway boards one day. And thanks!!
What was the first word/ thought that came to your mind when you saw yourself as Dracula the first time SHIT!!!!
If you weren't an actor, what would you like to do? hmmmm I always wanted to be a pathologist. But I'm not so sure now. Probably own a cool bar on a beach somewhere beautiful.
Do you think the character is more frightening as a charismatic attractive foreigner or the nosferatu type. I'm hoping there are elements of both. But "charismatic foreigner" is an interesting option.
@CalvinKlein @IGGYAZALEA @NickSwagyPYoung Good times!!!
А это вчерашнее, тоже уже в Милане. Знакомое поло в горошек
HAIR APPARENT: Luke Evans kept running his fingers through his hair at GQ’s fashion bash in Milan on Saturday night. “It feels so bizarre. I had curly hair all my life, but I had to get it straightened for my next movie,” he said of “High Rise,” a sci-fi drama set in the Seventies, in which he stars opposite Jeremy Irons and Sienna Miller.
“I look like George Best, the footballer, you know? And the pants were a little bit tight back then, everything was on display,” lamented Evans, who will also be seen in “The Hobbit: The Battle: of the Five Armies” and “Dracula Untold” this year. He boasted he was perfectly cast for the latter movie. “I’ve got the fangs,” he said, showing off his pointy canine teeth. отсюда
